I think many people “know” but take for granted God’s love. The magnitude of it doesn’t sink in. Telling someone “God loves you” sometimes just doesn’t impact them, it doesn’t change their outlook. The God of the universe, the one who made the heaven and earth, mountains, rivers, animals, plants, and all of us, loves you. He is a holy, righteous God, He is all knowing and all powerful. He knows everything about you, and HE LOVES YOU. Each of us can say that!
But, He Loves Everybody
Sometimes, maybe, it’s because we think “well, yes, He loves everybody”. . .
“God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him won’t perish but will have eternal life.” John 3:16
Josh McDowell had an answer for that.. When people talk about how Christ dying for their sins doesn’t prove God’s love because he died for everyone, he said
“If you were the only person on the planet, Christ still would have died for you.”
Others have expressed that sentiment and the quote is attributed to various people. Now, it’s not in the Bible. After all, it’s hypothetical. I mean look around there’s a lot of people here… So we don’t know what would’ve happened. BUT that’s not the point. What those people are trying to show and the thing to remember is … He DOES love each of us, individually, more than we know.
He loves us individually
Psalm 139 tells us how much God knows each of us, how carefully He created each of us, and how often He thinks about each of us. In the parable of the lost sheep, Luke 15:3-7, Jesus tells us how precious each of us is individually to Him. It shows the love and concern He has for each of us personally. He also created each of us as unique beings amongst all the billions in the world.
Still some discount God’s love for them, “Well He loves everybody doesn’t He?”. While I was at a Creation Festival years ago, I heard Eric Delve, a British evangelist, address that sentiment. His wonderful response really stuck with me.
“Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is not that God loves me because He loves the whole world. The truth is He loves the whole world because there is not a single human being in all of mankind’s past, present, or future who cannot say, ‘God loves me, me, me.’ Wow!”. – Eric Delve in his book “To Boldly Go”.
May you and I let that sink in deep into our very beings… ‘Cause it has to make us smile…
And, the full reality and understanding can change your life.
